WWF GFTN The GFTN is WWF's initiative to eliminate
illegal logging and improve the management of valuable and threatened forests.
By facilitating trade links between companies committed to achieving and
supporting responsible forestry, the GFTN creates market conditions that help
conserve the world's forests while providing economic and social benefits for
the businesses and people that depend on them.
Illegal
Logging The purpose of this site is to provide background
information on the key issues in the illegal logging debate, together with news
stories, information on events, key documents and links to other relevant
websites. This site is maintained by the Energy, Environment and Development
Programme of Chatham House in London, with funding from the UK Department for
International Development (DFID).
CITES The Convention on International Trade in
Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) is a global response to
concern over the trade of endangered species. CITES regulates the trade in live
animals, animal parts, ornamental plants, medicinal plant parts and timber
species.
FLEGT Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade
(FLEGT) is the European Union's initiative to eliminate illegal timber from
their sector. The FLEGT Action Plan sets out a new and innovative approach to
tackling illegal logging, which links the push for good governance in
developing countries with the legal instruments and leverage offered by the
EU's own internal market.
CPET CPET is funded by the UK government (DEFRA) and
provides detailed information and advice on how public sector buyers and their
suppliers can meet the UK Government's timber procurement policy requirements
in practice.
The Equator Principles The Equator Principles are a
benchmark for the financial industry to manage social and environmental issues
in project financing.
Timber Trade Action
Plan The Timber Trade Action Plan (TTAP) is an EC funded project
managed by the European timber trade federations (TTFs) to overcome trade in
illegally logged tropical timber in Europe.
FSC The Forest Stewardship
Council (FSC) is an international network that promotes the responsible
management of the world's forests. FSC brings people together to find solutions
to the problems created by bad forestry practices and to reward good forest
