FLEG

The Forest Law Enforcement and Governance (FLEG) process has over recent years become a significant international discussion forum for illegal logging issues. Coordinated by the World Bank, it is the outcome of a number of consultations, conferences and national initiatives organised by multilateral and bilateral donors that focused on combating the threat posed to forests by illegal logging and trade, corruption and poaching.

The FLEG process consists of a number of interlinked regional initiatives that bring together government Ministers, technical experts, and NGO and private sector leaders to achieve consensus and mobilize international commitment to increase efforts to combat illegal logging as well as the associated trade and corruption in the forest sector.

Kevin Hill, founder and Director of Certisource has served as an industry representative on the Advisory Group of the Asia FLEG process since 2002. Indeed it was his involvement in the FLEG process that identified the need for professional, credible and cost effective timber verification providers that directly led to the birth of Certisource.
